DIY Birdbath Must Haves:

There are a few must haves that every birdbath needs:

  • Make sure that your birdbath is no deeper than 3 inches. This allows small birds to use it, as well as larger birds. If your bird bath is too deep you can add small rocks or river rock for the birds to stand on.
  • Provide some shelter for birds to feel safe by placing your birdbath near some shrubs or trees.
  • Keep your birdbath out of direct sunlight. The water can get super hot and may harm wildlife.
  • Clean your birdbaths regularly. Algae can grow quickly in birdbaths during summer months. Also, clean out any bird droppings in water on a regular basis.
  • Never use cleaning solutions to clean your birdbaths. You only need a scrub brush and some water to keep it clean.
  • Change standing water often to deter mosquito larva from hatching. You can monitor when the birdbath needs a fresh batch of water.
